Canterbury: What's going on at the Tenancy Tribunal? Meth testing, accidental damage & non-compliant alterations
Monthly Forum
21/11/17

Speaker: Tenancy Tribunal principal adjudicator Melissa Poole. Topic: What's going on at the Tenancy Tribunal???
Meth testing, accidental damage and non-compliant alterations - just a few of the testy topics that the Tenancy Tribunal is coming to grips with.
At the heart of these challenging issues is the Tenancy Tribunal's principal adjudicator Melissa Poole.
Melissa has a strong interest in access to justice. She's a former senior law lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington and former deputy chair of the Immigration and Protection Tribunal. Her job is to guide the Tenancy Tribunal through the transition to a new online tenancy adjudication system and to resolve legal questions concerning new issues in the tenancy jurisdiction - issues like meth contamination, landlord insurance/tenant liability and unlawful housing.
If you've got rental properties, this forum is for you - you do not want to miss the chance to ask your burning questions!

Topic: Innovative landlord solutions - What it takes to be Landlord of the Year.
Speaker: NZPIF Landlord of the Year Kathryn Seque
NZPIF 2016-2017 Landlord of the Year Kathryn Seque is on a mission to upgrade Dunedin’s rental market one property at a time.A big part of making Dunedin a “nicer place to live” is ensuring her properties conform with New Zealand’s warmer, drier, healthier homes standard. It’s this kind of insight, commitment and good land lording that snagged her the prestigious prize of Landlord of the Year, and made her the youngest winner of the title yet.
Kathryn will share her proactive approach when it comes to the many changes that landlords are faced with at present, and how she looks for innovative solutions in day-to-day land lording. She also spearheads new marketing solutions for her properties and her own, solid tenancy practices to make the property investment experience as easy as possible.

Topic: creating your goals and achieving your property investment
David Tilman was 25-years-old when he realised he'd never get ahead working a regular bank job.
So he quit, took a better paying job at a factory and set a five-year goal to buy a house and repay the mortgage in full. He not only managed to achieve that, but also travelled the world and bought a glider. Then he started reading about investment property and wrote down his next goal: retire by the age of 45. How did he do? Come and here the full story at July's forum.
